Kate + Spencer: San Diego Temple Destination Wedding
Back in April, I had the honor of being a part of Kate and Spencer’s GORGEOUS wedding day. Everything about these two is a dream, and their wedding day fit their personalities perfectly. It truly was the type of wedding day you see in the movies or read in a romance novel. I adored the utmost class and reverence they held for this special day. The simple schedule of the day placed all the focus on the sacredness of their ceremony, and you could literally feel the love from them, their family and friends throughout the day because of it. It was one of the most beautiful weddings I’ve had the honor of photographing.
Kate and Spencer started their wedding day with their ceremony at the stunning San Diego Temple. A bit of scaffolding on the outer spires didn’t get these two down, and we had a blast capturing their photos on the ground. Following their ceremony and photos on the grounds, we made our way to the Torrey Pines Glider Port. On the deck overlooking the glider port, tacos and cake were shared amidst toasts to the bride and groom and joyful conversation. The weather was as perfect as San Diego weather could get! Mid 70s and a light breeze. Following their intimate luncheon, we took a short walk to the nearby cliffs for some gorgeous portraits. I have to say, I think I found my new favorite San Diego photo location. Overall, it was the most perfect day and I’m obsessed with the photos we captured!
Following their wedding, I asked Kate to share some of their love story so I could share with all of you! Here is what she had to say:
How did you guys meet? Tell us your love story! Who made the first move and when did you know your husband was the one?
Spencer and I knew of each other because we served in the same mission for our church. Therefore, we had some mutual friends. He got home a while before I did and was already attending BYU-Idaho. The fall semester that I came to BYU-Idaho, I had been off my mission exactly two days when my best friend and roommate asked if I wanted to go swimming with some people. Spencer was apart of that group. We started talking and we saw each other that night at a party and he got my number. We went on a couple dates and then started spending pretty much all our spare time with each other. I finally decided we needed to call it and say we were dating, so I brought it up and on Oct. 8th, we started “officially” dating (note that it was me who made this move). We had some wonderful months together, I went home with him for thanksgiving and I think both our families were surprised. We continued dating and then on valentines day he proposed!
Tell us about your proposal story.
It was February 14, 2019 and he asked if I wanted to go for a drive which was normal. However, I had on one of his old shirts and sweats and he asked if I wanted to change and put something “warmer” on. Now that was weird, he never cared what I wore but I didn’t think too much of it especially because the ring was custom done and not supposed to be done for another 2-3 weeks. I changed and we got in the car. We then drove to my old apartment complex, and Spencer parked car. He then started this recording he had made of himself talking. That apartment was the first place we kissed. He talked a little about that and then he proceeded to take me to a few other spots that were momentous in our relationship. It ended with us going to “our spot” that overlooked the city, and leading up to the spot he had painted big pallets with words to our song on it. At the end there was a big sign asking me to marry him. I said yes! ;)
What is your favorite thing about your husband?
I love his eyes! It was the first thing I noticed about him. They are beautifully blue and he smiles with his eyes. I really don’t know how to explain it, but you can see the joy in him! He also treats me better than a queen! He’s a keeper for sure!
What was the best part of your wedding day?
Being surrounded by all the people I love and knowing that it was the start of literally the longest adventure ever!
Where did you find your wedding dress?
House Of Order Clothing! I use to work for the Amber, the owner, and I wouldn't have trusted anyone else to make my dress and veil! She is in Provo Utah and is magic when it comes to fabric! She designs and makes stunning temple and wedding dresses!
What’s the best marriage advice you’ve received so far?
Marriage is a give give relationship, you love the person that you will give anything and everything and not expect or want anything in return because you want them to be happy! --It’s true too!
What advice do you have for future brides?
Pick two or three things you want perfect and then be okay to let everything else go a bit. I am pretty sure weddings never go as planned and if you expect everything to go perfectly, you will get stressed and not enjoy it! So when planning have YOUR things perfect and on your wedding day, be okay with whatever happens. You are the center of attention for one glorious day, soak it all up!
